Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where is Bluestone Hatchery located?
A: We are a veteran-owned family farm located on the East Side of Daviess County with a Lewisport, KY 42351 address. We are about 5 minutes past Reid's Orchard and 30 minutes from Downtown Lewisport. Address: 9606 State Route 1389, Lewisport, KY 42351.
Q: How do I place an order for chicks or eggs?
A: Call or TEXT Barry at 270-314-1558 with your name, phone number, and what you'd like to order. You can also email Barry@BluestoneHatchery.com. Prepaid orders take TOP priority — first come, first serve.
Q: Do you guarantee pullets (females only)?
A: YES! We sex chicks carefully in small batches. If we make a mistake, return the rooster and we'll replace it with a pullet. We do NOT sell straight-run if you only want pullets.
Q: What payment methods do you accept?
A: Cash is king! We also accept Venmo (@BluestoneHatchery) and Cash App ($BluestoneHatchery). Prepaid orders are given top priority.
Q: What breeds do you offer?
A: We offer purebreds including Rhode Island Reds, White Leghorns, Barred Rocks, Lavender Orpingtons, White American Breese, Silver/Gold/Blue Laced Wyandottes, Ameraucanas, Buff Orpingtons, Black Copper Marans, and Brahmas. We also offer exclusive Hybrid Vigor Crosses like Super Blue Egg Layers, Rhode Island Blacks, Mars Bars, and Red Gold Layers.
Q: What are Hybrid Vigor Crosses?
A: These are purpose-bred crosses using purebred roosters and hens to produce healthier, more productive birds that lay more eggs, more often — sometimes in blue, green, or pink. They live 5-7 years like their purebred parents.
Q: How much do chicks and eggs cost?
A: Sexed pullets start at $5 each. Hatching eggs are $40 for a 12-count. Pasture-raised eating eggs are $10 for a 30-count flat. Grow-outs are $10/month of age. Laying hens are $200 each (ready to lay!).
Q: Do you sell hatching eggs for incubating?
A: Yes! We sell premium hatching eggs at $40 for a 12-count. We recommend HatchingTime.com/BluestoneHatchery for quality incubators.
Q: Are your eggs safe to eat?
A: Our pasture-raised eating eggs come from healthy, well-cared-for hens with regular outdoor access. Once purchased, proper refrigeration and handling are the customer's responsibility. Always refrigerate eggs promptly, keep clean and dry, and cook thoroughly.
Q: Can I visit the farm?
A: Yes, by appointment only. TEXT or call 270-314-1558 to schedule. We are a working farm — please do not show up unannounced.
